Mrs. Meredith Scheiner joined the Norristown Area School District in December as the new Supervisor of Middle School Education, bringing a deep passion for student-centered learning and a commitment to creating conditions where educators thrive.
Her journey in education began early—she knew since fourth grade that she wanted to be a teacher and was convinced she would teach social studies. She earned a history degree and spent a year studying in Spain and Mexico. After graduation, she taught for two years in Costa Rica at an English language school, further immersing herself in Latin American history and culture.
When she returned to the U.S., Mrs. Scheiner accepted a role teaching math at a school in Harrisburg that served low-income middle school boys. Though she initially saw herself as a history teacher, she quickly discovered a love for mathematics—especially after realizing that she had been taught math in a way that didn’t support her learning.
“That part of enjoying math and feeling like you belong in that conversation became really important to me,” she shared.
Her passion for making math more accessible and engaging led her to Philadelphia, where she pursued a master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania. She worked at a charter school and fell in love with instructional coaching, eventually co-developing a coaching program. This experience propelled her into consulting, where she partnered with schools across Philadelphia to improve math instruction. After her consulting work, she transitioned to the School District of Philadelphia’s math team, ultimately becoming Math Director. Under her leadership, Philadelphia was recognized as the fastest-recovering urban school district in math post-COVID—one of her proudest professional accomplishments.
Now at NASD, Mrs. Scheiner was drawn to the district’s growing momentum in literacy and the strong sense of community.
“The loyalty people have to this district is something special. I’ve met so many staff members who have been here for years, and that tells me something is being done right.”
Looking ahead, she is eager to strengthen communication and collaboration with middle school teams and elevate social-emotional learning (SEL) in the classroom. She believes that academic success and emotional well-being go hand in hand and wants to support teachers in embedding SEL into their daily instruction.
“It’s not about adding something extra—it’s about making sure we take the time to build classroom routines that encourage connection, discussion, and reflection.”
Outside of work, Mrs. Scheiner enjoys playing ultimate frisbee (not to be confused with disc golf!), practicing yoga, hiking, camping, and spending time with family.
We are thrilled to have Mrs. Scheiner as part of our District Leadership Team. Please join us in welcoming her to NASD!
