Mr. Solomon Webb emphasizes the importance of cultural awareness and community building, stating that,
“Celebrating one's culture gives us a sense of belonging and understanding, and this is important not just for students of color, but all of us to work and understand each other better.”
Mr. Webb comes from a large extended family. Many of his family members, including his mom, sister, and cousins, live in his neighborhood in lower Bucks County. He has 3 children of his own, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Webb shared that his family is originally from Tuskegee, Alabama, and part of how his family celebrates Black History Month is sharing their own family history. He teaches his own children and nieces and nephews about his parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. There is lots of history in his own family, and in his immediate community. When his grandparents moved, there were 2 other families that came from Tuskegee to Bucks County, and they leaned on each other for support. Mr. Webb and his family make sure to share those stories and photos with their children to keep their history alive. He shared,
“We are very fortunate to have some of the things that we have, but it came from hard work, and unfortunately for some of my ancestors, suffering.”
This is why it is so important to Mr. Webb and his family to share stories with their children: to provide them with an understanding of how their history directly affects them.
Some leaders that have inspired Mr. Webb are Martin Luther King Jr. for his vision and leadership and Barack Obama for his accomplishments. Someone closer to him that he finds inspiring is his older sister. He shared about when he was in 9th grade, his sister was speaking up about inequities in their school and community. Thinking about it now, he realizes that she started being a vocal leader at such a young age, and he really admires her for that. Her leadership reminds him of how everything we do comes back to the students and community we serve, and doing our best to serve them well.
Mr. Webb has been the Supervisor of Secondary Education for 2 years at Norristown Area School District. Prior to this role, he was an Assistant Principal at NAHS, and he taught middle and high school mathematics for over 20 years. He earned his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from Bucknell University, and he completed the Principal’s certification program at Holy Family University. Mr. Webb loves spending a lot of time with his family. His children are involved in soccer, wrestling, and boxing and he enjoys attending their events and supporting them. He also enjoys carpentry, restoring old trucks/cars, exercise, and traveling.
