This past Friday, the Harlem Wizards came to Norristown to play a game against the Hearts of Norristown, made up of NASD staff and community partners. With over 700 attendees, the event was a great success.
Students had the opportunity to meet the players, participate in halftime games and activities, and enjoy the game. The crowd was lively, and the energy was felt throughout the gym. Although the Hearts of Norristown did not secure the victory against the Harlem Wizards, the game was so much fun for both players and spectators. There were also community partners, raffle baskets, and free prizes for students.
Proceeds from the event will be going towards new AED machines, AED equipment and community education (including CPR training) to honor the young men from NASD that passed away last year: Quentin Watson and Mehki Green.
In September, Representative Greg Scott’s Office, Simon’s Heart, Jefferson Einstein Montgomery, and NASD hosted a Free Community Heart Screening. From this event, eight of our students were referred to cardiologists for further testing. Without this screening, these students may have gone undiagnosed their entire lives.
Huge thank you to the Harlem Wizards for coming to Norristown and engaging with our students and staff.
Thank you NASD, and the Hearts of Norristown for a great game!
Thank you, Jefferson Einstein Montgomery and Representative Greg Scott, for your continued support of our students and community.
We are looking forward to more events and heart screenings for our students.
