Dear Parent/Guardian:

It is that time of year again as schools across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania begin the final push toward the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) tests. The PSSA will be given to all students in grades three and four. The assessment provides a measure of student achievement in English/Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science. This year’s testing window, testing dates and times are shown in the table below.  Paul V. Fly Elementary School will adhere to the following testing schedule:

Parents & Families play a vital role in preparing students for a successful testing experience.  Here are some tips to help your student approach the PSSA with a positive attitude:

  • Please do not plan any vacations or appointments for your child during the PSSA testing window.

·        Make sure your son/daughter gets a good night’s sleep before each of the PSSA testing sessions.

·        Provide a nutritious breakfast on the days of the test.

·        Be sure your child arrives at school on time.

·        Express your confidence in your child and communicate your high expectations.

·        Emphasize the importance of testing to your child.  Encourage your son/daughter to “show what they know”.

·        Don’t underestimate your power as a parent.  Be your child’s cheering section and reinforce their confidence.  Your child will benefit from your positive outlook.

PSSA Schedule notes

Please note that 3rd & 4th grade have a modified schedule due to testing. They will be testing in the morning and will have modified instruction for the afternoon. Because of the nature of the test they will be provided with a variety of non-strenuous activities after the testing time. The modified schedule will begin on Monday, April 3, 2017 and we will resume our regular school schedule on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

 PSSA Results

The Pennsylvania Department of Education typically mails official PSSA individual results to the districts in August, following the PSSA administration. Once received, a copy of your child’s test scores will be placed in his or her student file, and a copy of the results will be sent home in September/October.

Thank you, in advance, for your continued support.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
