Norristown Area School District and the CCSS
The Norristown Area School District is implementing the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and Language Arts starting in the 2011 - 2012 school year. The Pennsylvania Department of Education has outlined a transition plan for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) beginning in the 2013 - 2014 school year with grades 3 - 5 taking an assessment using the Common Core State Standards as the content. In the 2014 - 2015 school year grades 6 - 8 will begin taking the Common Core State Standards PSSA. Through the implementation of the Common Core State Standards the Norristown Area School District is raising the rigor in every classroom to prepare our students to be College and Career ready.
Common Core State Standards Mission Statement
The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.
